Caring for our family’s stories

Knowing our history means we do not have to start from scratch. We can build on what earlier generations worked hard to achieve. Many put their energy and hopes into their children’s future. Their skills and successes can inspire us, and their experiences can help us avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Share honestly. Say where your information comes from and make clear when you are unsure.
Write respectfully about both living and deceased relatives. Try to understand people and the times they lived in without judging them.
Bring curiosity, imagination, and kindness to your contributions. Ask questions, suggest corrections, and respect other people’s privacy.

Sharing a story with someone is one of life’s simple joys, especially when it brings back a shared memory or someone you both knew. These conversations remind us of our roots and help us feel closer and stronger together.
